Principal Research Interests:

As director of Physical, Instrumental, and Analytical Laboratory Instruction, I am interested in developing labs that are relevant to the questions, methodologies, and technologies students will encounter in the future. The laboratory is full of cutting-edge technology, and I believe that student's exposure in an undergraduate setting helps prepare them for what they will encounter in research and industrial settings.

As a physical chemist, the optical properties of materials have held my attention, and I have investigated the optical properties of single molecules and small crystals.

As a scientist, encouraging underrepresented groups to pursue STEM career in all fields is important to me. To that end I have worked with teenagers and started to develop a curriculum for kindergartners.
