The Chime plugin for WWW browsers is getting a significant amount
of attention. A new beta version 2 been released recently. Macintosh and
PC (Windows 3.1, Windows 95) versions are available, as is an 8-bit color
SGI Unix version. The latter is a bit clunky (will not work for 24-bit color
machines without a kludge as of 8 Jan 98), but should be nice when the bugs
are out. This is for
academic users and testers. An added bonus in the new version 2 will be
support for linking spectral figures in various formats to animations and
frames that contain info relevant to the mapped spectrum. The latter feature
