Crystal analysis by A. Chandrasekaran for Lora M. Field.

Magnetic analysis by Lora M. Field

This molecule was synthesized by Lora Field as a coordination complex between a stable radical and manganese(II).  The radical portion has three coordination sites, so a number of possible connectivities are possible here.  This structure is the only one that was isolated under a variety of conditions.

The magnetism clearly shows ferromagnetic exchange coupling between two Mn-NIT spin units. Each spin unit has S=2, consistent with strong antiferromagnetic exchange between the Mn and NIT portions of the Mn-NIT unit.
