For the
past twenty years, interest in organic polymers with high degrees of conjugation
has grown exponentially. Part of this has been basic interest in the electronic
structure of systems with highly mobile p-electrons, but much of the recent
interest has been in potential applications of such molecules. Among the uses
of such polymers that are of interest to the Lahti group are:
- Chemical sensor and
biosensor behavior of light emitting and conducting organic-based materials
- Conducting materials
- Nonlinear optical materials
for information transmission media
- Light emitting diode
(LED) materials for flexible flat screen displays
- Photoconductivity for
photocopying applications
- Optical switching for
use as optical (rather than magnetic) information storage and computer memory
materials.
-
Energy gathering and storage materials
