The Departmental Head and Chemistry Departmental Safety Committee have affirmed that research directors remain responsible for the purchase of non-presciption safety eyewear for researchers in their groups. See the policy below, which remains in force.

From safety@admin.umass.edu Thu Nov 14 12:55:00 1996
TO ALL CHEMISTRY RESEARCHERS:

NOTE THE PRECEDING COMMUNICATION FROM UMASS EHS. IT IS POSSIBLE TO
GET PRESCRIPTION SAFETY GLASSES. THE COST OF SUCH GLASSES WILL BE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PURCHASER.

THE PURCHASE OF NON-PRESCRIPTION SAFETY GLASSES THROUGH THE STOCKROOM
WILL REMAIN THE RESPONSIBILITY OF RESEARCH ADVISORS, AS EARLIER STIPULATED
BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD, SINCE SUCH SAFETYWARE IS A STANDARD PART OF
THE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT.
