Congratulations to our new REUs!
From a pool of 170 applications, 10 students from across the country accepted our invitations to do research in renewable energy through our NSF Collaborative Undergraduate Research in Energy (CURE) program for 10 weeks this summer. Joining them are CURE’s first two international students who were selected through a program offered through the American Chemical Society in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD.)
The 2008 REU’s are Jameson Harrell, Mercer University, Macon, Georgia; Amy Reidhaar, Manchester College, Fort Wayne, Indiana; Sarah Ann Claiborne, Belmont University, Nashville, Tennessee; Kelley Hutchins, Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan; Jessica Kramer, Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York; Jason Krizan, The College of New Jersey, Ewing, New Jersey; Rachel Shirron, Gordon College, Wenham, Massachusetts; Raymond Devaughn, University of the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C.; Amy Sirkis, College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia; Emily Daniels, Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio; Jan Lohofener, Leibniz University of Hanover, Hanover, Germany; and Thomas Schweizer, Hochschule Esslingen, University of Applied Sciences, Esslingen, Germany.
The REU’s arrive June 1. Their research begins June 2. Working with MassCREST faculty including investigators with the collaborative NSF Center for Fueling the Future, the students will participate in research projects focused on biomass conversion, fuel cells and membranes, photovoltaic devices, and more.
