Undergraduate Chemistry Majors attended: Saturday's event sponsored by the Development Committee and Procter & Gamble was a huge success. Forty-three (43) students from about 15 colleges attended. The event included Procter & Gamble’s acclaimed Industrial Analytical Chemistry Seminar for undergraduates. This outstanding seminar, which P&G has offered since 1983, has been presented at 60 universities and numerous professional society conferences to over 6,400 students. The event included a poster session featuring Analytical research at the University, an opportunity to meet several of our research faculty, a tour of our new Integrated Sciences Building and a complimentary lunch. The P&G seminar provided a realistic picture of what is done in industry and also addressed such issues as salaries, degree level, demand for analytical chemists, etc. The primary emphasis of the seminar was “The analytical chemist is a problem solver.” A framework was developed for problem solving based on real world industrial examples drawn from the laboratories of P&G. |
