Maroney Awarded Major NIH
Grant for Metalloprotein Research
Bio-inorganic professor Michael Maroney was
recently awarded a grant ($899,000) by the National Institutes
of Health for his proposal entitled "Structural Parameters Involved
in Metal Recognition". The funding will support work on proteins
involved in Ni trafficking in E. coli, H. pylori, and other microorganisms.
The Maroney group is internationally recognized for its work on metallo-enzyme
structure and function, particularly mechanistic aspects of nickel
catalyzed reactions in biology. Other aspects of the Maroney group's
work are supported by the National Science Foundation and the Petroleum
Research Fund.
