This molecule was synthesized by Cesar Sierra.  The molecule has quite strong quantum efficiency for fluorescence in the blue to blue-green region (depending on solvent or solid state excitation).  This structure contains DMSO of crystallization, with disorder in the solvent.  However, the DMSO does serve to help organize the chromophore molecules into linear chains, by H-bonding with the OH groups pendant on the central benzene ring.
